Ragnarok sprite proportions

Measured on October 11, 2026. The official PC Ragnarok costume update, dated August 21, 2020, links the two source PNGs below. Each contains male and female standing game sprites alongside a painted character. Measurements use the sprites, not the paintings.

Annotated sprite landmarks

Coordinates and source sizes are in measurements.json. Reproduce the arithmetic and figure with python3 _research/reference-measurements/ragnarok/measure.py, then run mdr _research/reference-measurements/ragnarok/sprite-measurements.png. results.json records computed values and cleaned source hashes.

Measurement limits

This is a four-sprite sample of Renewal alternate costumes. It is not a census of classic jobs or every animation. Each y landmark has an estimated ±2 published-pixel placement uncertainty. Inclusive height is sole_y - hair_top_y + 1; visible head height is chin_y - hair_top_y + 1. Hair and boots count. Ground shadow and painted figures do not.

Do not interpret published height as native client frame resolution. The source may already be scaled. Head means visible hair-to-chin silhouette, not skull diameter. The Archbishop male's nearby painted boot is excluded from the hair landmark. Robes, armor and hair hide shoulders, pelvis and knees, so no exact anatomical limb ratios are inferred. Facing and perspective also affect the visible result.

The official Novice guide supplies a small screenshot for a classic-style qualitative check. It contains sitting and standing poses, terrain and an emote, and the standing actor's soles are cropped. It is excluded from the numerical table because full standing height cannot be established. Additional Ranger and Royal Guard image downloads returned HTTP 429 and were not measured.

Veyrenth adaptation

The measured sample spans approximately 3.4 to 3.7 visible head heights. The owner requested a smaller head than the first Squire draft. The new candidate therefore targets 4.0 to 4.5 visible head heights, nominally 4.25, or approximately 22.2% to 25% head height. This is an authored adaptation, not a claim about Ragnarok's original proportions.

For a 128 px unforeshortened standing Veyrenth study, that means about 28 to 32 px hair-to-chin, with about 30 px at the nominal target. Raster canvas dimensions also need weapon, hair and action clearance. Check ratios on a frontal standing calibration view; an elevated isometric view foreshortens the body. Keep the same rig and head scale across facings. Full-grown painted portraits retain their separate adult illustration anatomy.

Skill instructions: Ragnarok sprite proportions. Downloaded Ragnarok references remain measurement studies, not Veyrenth character assets.
